While the "Share Last Seen With" option may have allowed you to add specific contacts to see when you're online. The current testing option requires you to softly block the majority of people on your contact list. However, WhatsApp could have added another option, "Share Last seen with," that would have been more popular than "My contacts except".
It just makes it easier to explain why you weren't using the app. This is especially important when you are unable to respond to people but they can see that you have not been using WhatsApp for some time.
While I'm not a fan of WhatsApp's Last Seen Status, I think it's a great way for your friends and family to keep an eye on the messaging platform to see when you were last using it. Why Is Last Seen Not Showing In Whatsapp?
